Public Lecture "Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and the USA Police"

You are cordially invited to attend the public lecture by Mr. Luis Antonio Colon, American homicide detective at National Parliamentary Library this Friday at 6:30 pm. The subject of his lecture is "Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and the USA Police".  Entrance is Free!   

 


  As the Vice-President of Grey Wolf Enterprises, he consults on the key elements of fundamental security principles as well as multiple topics on Safety & Smarter Traveling, Risk Management, and Emergency Medical Healthcare for business professionals, individuals and their families who travel and live in moderate to higher risk environments; As a retired Navy Corpsman with 21-year of service with the United States Navy, he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and four Navy and Marine Corps' Achievement Medals for his service to his country. He was also awarded "Sailor of the Year" while assigned to the Naval Special Warfare Command Special Boat Squadron TWO.
Luis then continued his professional career providing corporate security at Marriott International, Northrop Grumman Shipyard, and Surry Nuclear Power Plant. Next, as a sworn police officer for the Portsmouth Police Department in Portsmouth, Virginia, he received the police "Medal of Valor" and was twice decorated with Outstanding Job Performance awards while assigned to the Major Crimes Unit / Homicide Division.
Luis trained in the fields of Homicide, Cold Cases, Interview and Interrogation, Crisis Intervention Teams, Hostage Negotiations, Crisis Incident Stress De-briefing, (CISD) and Crime Scene Forensic Science through the Virginia Forensic Science Academy. He attended the prestigious Anthropology Forensic School in Knoxville, Tennessee, known as "The Body Farm," taught by Dr. Bill Bass, author of numerous books and articles dealing with an investigative time of death. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Liberty University.
As a police officer and detective, Luis was involved with Special Victims cases that dealt with violence against women and children. Luis is trained in Crisis Incident Stress De-briefing (CISD), which is a facilitator-led process that prevents or limits the development of post-traumatic stress in people exposed to critical incidents.
He was responsible for the development of the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) approved 40 hours / 36 CEU accredited course in Crime Scene Investigation and served as the lead instructor. He was instrumental in teaching Crime Scene Investigation to several Hampton Roads' Police Departments, DOD, Universities, and Colleges in the development of their Officers' crime scene skills. As a Basic Life Support Instructor through the American Heart Association, he certifies individuals and groups in First Aid, Adult/Child & Infant CPR & AED.
